The Dubai Road and Transportation Authority (RTA) has announced that work on the Dubai Metro Red Line will complete at the end of April 2010. In addition, on-going work on the Green Line is scheduled to complete on a revised date in August 2011.

While there are 18 stations remaining to go in service on the Red Line, seven will come online in April, based on the immediate needs of the area as assessed by the RTA.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA, summarized the criteria upon which the stations to be operated on 25 April 2010 had been selected as: “availability of population density in the locality served by each station so as to provide convenient services to the inhabitants in the neighborhood, availability of commercial activities in the area served by each station, availability of government activities in the vicinity of each station, the station integration with other transport modes such as buses & water transport means, and the projected number of commuters at each station”.

The Dubai Metro Red Line stations scheduled to open on 25 April are:

  • Emirates Station
  • Airport Terminal 1 Station
  • GGICO Station
  • Al Karama Station
  • Trade Center Station
  • Marina Station
  • Ibn Battuta Station.

The remaining Red Line stations will be operated over the following months of 2010.
