World record base jump off Burj Khalifa
After the unofficial (and illegal) BASE jumps by two Frenchman off the Burj Khalifa prior to it’s opening, we have had an official world record base jump from the completed building.
Nasser Al Neyadi and Omar Alhegelan, expert sky divers and BASE jump enthusiasts, made a perfect landing after covering a vertical descent of 672 meters (2,205 ft).
Nasser, a UAE national representing Fazza Sky Team, set a new world record for the highest BASE jump executed from a building by sailing down safely on a parachute from Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building developed by Emaar Properties. He was accompanied by Omar, his BASE and skydiving trainer.
The duo were in free fall for 10 seconds after which they opened their parachute for a 30-40 second flight and landed at Burj Park Island.
BASE jumping is an extreme sports activity that employs an initially packed parachute to jump off fixed objects. BASE is an acronym representing the four types of categories of fixed objects, namely Buildings, Antennas, Spans (bridges) and Earth (cliffs).
