Doves at Dubai Sound City
For those of you who aren’t aware, Doves are an English indie-rock band hailing from Wilmslow, and comprising of twins Jez Williams (guitar, vocals) and Andy Williams (drums, vocals), accompanied by Jimi Goodwin (bass, vocals, guitar). More importantly, we’ve been given a great opportunity to see them perform live at the Irish Village in Dubai, as part of the Dubai Sound City event on 5th November.
The group started working together seriously after meeting at The Haçienda nightclub in Manchester and forming Sub Sub–a dance group whose single Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use) reached #3 on the UK Singles Chart, in the early nineties.
After their studio burned down in February of 1996, the group resurfaced as an alternative rock band Doves, in 1998. Since then, Doves have released four albums: Lost Souls (2000), The Last Broadcast (2002), Some Cities (2005), and most recently Kingdom of Rust (2009). They have also managed to open from some huge acts such as U2, Oasis, and Coldplay.
The video above is for the title track from the fourth album Kingdom of Rust.
This act is part of the Dubai Sound City three day music festival with a vast lineup of bands, held around venues in Dubai. One day multi-venue pass is 295 AED. Three day passes are 750 AED.
