Vapiano is a German franchise which does Italian food. Go figure. Nevertheless, the Vapiano in Dubai Media City is a lunch time hot-spot serving out fresh pasta, pizza, salads, and coffee to the media-types which throng to this location.

For those not familiar with the Vapiano concept, each individual gets a “chip card” when you enter which is used to track your spending. You pick a line and have your meal assembled piece by piece. There are pizza lines, pasta lines, and salad lines. Swipe your card when you order, find a seat, and eat. Once you’re done you swipe your card again at the cash register and pay.

There’s a lot of variety on the menu along with featured monthly specials. We’re huge fans of the ravioli con carne (all the pasta is made fresh on-site daily), as well as the toscana and bbq chicken pizzas. The pizzas are sizeable and come thin crust style, but don’t leave you feeling full and bloated at the end of your meal. There are a number of salads on offer too on which you can add chicken or shrimp for a few AED more.

This Vapiano location get’s very busy during the lunch hours on weekdays, and they don’t take table reservations so plan to come early. Unlike the Vapiano Dubai Mall, however, it sees far fewer customer during the evenings or weekends.

There’s an outside patio to eat on the nicer days, as well as, a smoking-friendly lounge (the rest of the restaurant is not.) The restaurant is located in the Al Thuraya 2 tower nextdoor to the Media One hotel, and the Noor Islamic Bank. Parking is very limited (unless you work at one of the local buildings).

We’ve been impressed with the reasonably priced quality food and the friendly service at Vapiano. If you find yourself near Media City or Internet City around lunch-time, this place is a great option.
