The Lime Tree Cafe has a strong following and for good reason–they consistently serve good wholesome and fresh food.

Lunch is the target meal time for this place though the Ibn Battuta branch stays open until 9pm, unlike the flagship Jumeirah branch which closes at 6pm. So you could even get a sandwich or salad for supper if you wanted to.

The menu consists of ready-made sandwiches, salads, tortillas like the one pictured above, as well as desserts. You place your order by going up to the counter and selecting what you want from the ready made selection in the refrigerated display. This is good because you get to see exactly what you will get, and because the variety changes from day to day (unless you don’t like the change). You can also order juices and smoothies which are made fresh to order. Once ready, your order is brought to your table.

The food has always been pretty fresh and tasty at Lime Tree. Last time we tried the chicken tortilla stack coupled with a strawberry smoothie. The tortilla stack was satisfying in terms of taste and fulfilling the appetite although we wish it was warmed a little more. Our smoothie tasted more like a milk shake than a smoothie (milk instead of yogurt?) but was refreshing nonetheless.

Lunch is a very popular time and the place gets packed–including weekdays–even though there is plenty of seating inside and outside. Since you have to go up to order your meal, you better get there early (meaning 12pm) to be able to get the table you want. During the winter months especially, the outdoor tables get picked up fast and then become available infrequently.

We’ve heard reader comments about customers not finding clean tables in the outdoor area, but we haven’t yet found examples of this on our visits.

The service is quick and courteous but not outstanding. Since you place the order yourself, there isn’t much interaction with the staff.

What Lime Tree is known for however, is their fantastic carrot cake. And this treasure must be experienced, although it’s better to take a friend since its unlikely that you’ll be able to finish this yummy treat by yourself.
