Getting your salad fix at Saladicious

Inside the funky eatery

Ever since I moved over here, I’ve been yearning to find a cozy lunch spot where I could get my salad fix.  Being so used to a variety of good salads available almost everywhere back in the US, it had been kind of disappointing in Dubai.  So imagine the enormous smile on my face when I learned about this treasure of a spot in Jumeirah.  And that was before I even started eating!

Saladicious is not the easiest place to find as it resides on the ground floor of a small residential building with an unnoticeable sign out front.  But be persistent and you will find it hidden away behind The One and Jumeirah Mosque, off Jumeirah Beach Road.

Once inside, you’ll be greeted to a very cozy and funky decor, almost a casual living room where you can immediately imagine yourself indulging in a nice meal and a glossy magazine; both of which are available.  In fact, there is a small area with a couch for just sipping some tea and surfing the net.  There’s also a small terrace which you should take advantage of in the cooler months to enjoy a view of downtown Dubai and the Emirates Towers.

The menu has a large array of food items including breakfast, soup, sandwiches, ready-made salads, pasta and meat entrees, as well as an assortment of desserts.  The breakfast items including the omelettes and Eggs Benedict are really very good, as are some of the menu salads.  Best part is that the breakfast is available ALL DAY!  The entrees can be hit or miss, but the ravioli I had was pretty tasty.

Saladicious serves a salad buffet, but for some reason I did not find it to be the best choice.  Perhaps, I imagined more variety, but what was available certainly seemed fresh.  Pleasantly, this freshness of ingredients also came through on the other dishes from the menu.

There is a nice assortment of drinks on the menu with probably all of them worth a try.  I am especially partial to the Lime and Mint which is a SUPERB choice for a hot afternoon and exceptionally well made.

Many people, it seems, order the chocolate cake so I had to try it.  And it was definitely worth it.  It turned out to be a small chocolate cake with a center that had melted chocolate poured in.  Not quite, the “flourless chocolate tort” I’ve had in the past with a progressive melted core and a complete hard shell; it was close and definitely a nice conclusion to the meal.

Surprisingly for Dubai, where so often it seems that customer service is a concept unknown in the retail and service industries, the staff at Saladicious are courteous and helpful.  Sometimes they seem to loose track during a shift change, but all in all, I found the staff pleasant to deal with.  I even received a complimentary Tiramisu–which was better than many I’ve had–when my order for the chocolate cake was delayed.

People of Dubai, you now finally have a relaxed hang-out to indulge in reasonably priced, healthy and fresh meals. Rejoice! Saladicious is truly a treasure to share with your friends over lunch.
