Business lunch at Fazaris

Fazaris is the all day dining restaurant (including breakfast buffet) on the 5th floor of the Address Hotel in the Downton Burj Dubai area. The restaurant features a large indoor dining area as well as seating on the extensive outdoor terrace overlooking the Burj Dubai tower. Just as extensive is the menu which features a blend of Japanese, Asian, Indian, Arabic and Mediterranean cuisines.
We’ve passed by Fazaris a few times on our way to Calabar so we decided to sample the menu via their business lunch which offers a two course set menu option for 95 AED and a three course option for 120 AED.
For appetizers you can select from the spicy tuna uramaki rolls (which we tried), roasted pumpkin soup or romaine lettuce smoked salmon. Main courses include chicken sharwarma with fatoush salad, prime beef burger with fontina cheese (which we tried) or pizza marinara with seafood and mozzarella. To close, you can select from a tropical selection of sliced fruits, ginger crème brulée or earl grey tea-infused banana with coffee emulsion (our pick).
In general, the food at Fazaris is delightful and elegantly presented. The highlight of our lunch was the spicy tuna appetizer which featured succulent slices of tuna intertwined with sour and tangy japanese flavors. Later, the prime beef burger arrived on a whole grain bun–like it’s served at More Café–which was satisfying, but invoked less delight than the tuna. This was followed by the earl grey tea-infused banana with coffee emulsion dessert which was, well, interesting. It was supremely presented, but we would have preferred a bit more sweetness.
Unfortunately, while the kitchen does it’s part, the wait staff lag behind. When we arrived, we were situated on a table that was clearly littered with bread crumbs, yet had a new table setting, and was not cleaned when we sat down–only after we specifically requested it. Later, we had to request for a new bottle of water and wait ten minutes for it arrive. Clearly, some of the staff were working harder than others as we encountered one server who was completely nonchalant and another who was more courteous.
On the value side, Fazaris is not that appealing–the menu while extensive is over priced, even for the great quality of food coming out of their kitchen. For this reason, we were glad to sample the menu on the fixed price business lunch which is not a bad deal at all. The lunch is offered daily from noon to 3pm, Sunday through Thursday. Fridays feature a brunch from 12:30 to 3:30pm from 290 AED with soft drinks and 390 AED inclusive of champagne and selected house beverages. On Wednesday, Fazaris hosts a sushi buffet night from 6:30 pm to midnight featuring free flowing sake and soft drinks from 185 AED.
In summary, we really like what the kitchen is doing but we don’t like how much it costs and the accompanied service. However, we recommend the lunch if you’re in the area (since it has good value) as well as the Wednesday sushi nights for something more unique.
