Located in the Burj Khalifa Lake, downtown Dubai, the Dubai Fountain is one of the world’s largest and supposedly shoots water up to 50 story’s high while it dances to a variety of musical songs.

The fountain dance starts at 6pm with performances every twenty minutes. On weekdays the last performance is at 10pm (13 shows) and on weekends at 11pm (16 shows).

This enormous sight and sound display has been designed by California based WET Design, the same people who designed the renowned dancing fountains at the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas as well as the revamped volcano at the Mirage hotel and casino. Locally, they have been involved in smaller water features at the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Marina, and Mall of the Emirates amongst others.

The fountain has been choreographed to eight songs though not all of them play each day:

  • Sama Dubai, Mehad Hamed, an Emirati tribute to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai
  • Dhoom Thana, by Vishal Shaker, a Hindi song from the feature film “Om Shanti Om”
  • Baba Yetu, Chirstopher Tin, a Swahili song
  • Shik Shak Shok, Hasan Abou El Seoud, an Arabic dance song
  • Con Te Partiro (Time to Say goodbye), in Italian by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman
  • Waves, Bijan Mortazavi
  • Bassbor Al Fourgakom, in Arabic by Hussain Al Jassmi, Al Thokol Samz
  • Inshed An Aldar (Ask about home), the second Emirati composition which made its debut at the Burj Khalifa inauguration

The best places to watch the fountain are on the bridge between Souk Al Bahar and the Dubai Mall as well as on the Boardwalk  closer to Burj Dubai and across from Vapiano. Some of the restaurants in Souk Al Bahar also offer a good vantage point–especially the corner by Margeaux and from Fai at the Palace. Be wary of the wind direction as some viewing places will get wet from the performance.
